It is SO easy to make somebody’s day; buy their coffee in the drive through, give them $5 if they’re standing on a street corner asking for help, or even look at them and give a warm, genuine smile. I have been lucky enough to team up with Very Jane and Cents of Style to # Be The Good. You can learn more about the campaign here, and hopefully you will accept the challenge!
I mentioned something about sweet little Kate on a previous post. I didn’t go into much detail, but today I am going to spread her story a little more. Kate is the daughter of my church’s pastor, Aaron McRae. She has been fighting brain cancer since 2009, at the ripe age of 5 1/2. After undergoing surgery, chemo, radiation, and the return of two tumors in 2011, her story picks up again here. The family received unexpected news that there was another tumor on her brain, and that she would have to undergo another surgery.
Despite the upset, the family has hit the ground running. Kate underwent surgery last week and is now back at home recovering for the next few days until follow up tests start. Holly and Aaron, her parents, have provided many updates, and Kate seems to be doing better everyday, despite the pain. (For Holly’s perspective, you can watch her video about their journey here).
I can’t help but think of this sweet angel every day, multiple times a day. She is such a beautiful, strong soul, and I pray for her recovery every time she enters my mind. Recovery from brain surgery is not something a little girl should have to go through once, let alone multiple times, so I decided to send a box full of love (and lots of pink) to encourage her and help her through these next couple days.
How can you help and Be The Good? Well…there’s LOTS of ways. So I decided to gather it all up for ya:
– Visit her site here: prayforkate.com. You will find pictures, the story, and an address if you would like to send gifts or letters of encouragement and love.
– Follow along with their updates at Caring Bridge. You can leave an encouraging note on the guestbook, or donate to help keep this non-profit site running.
– Donate to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, or St. Jude’s
– Show your support via Facebook, Team Kate’s Twitter, Holly’s Twitter, & Aaron’s Twitter
– Instagram a silly picture of you to make Kate giggle | hashtag #keepsmilingkate & #prayforkate
– And of course, join us on Sundays at Hillside Community Church in Rancho Cucamonga
