It seems as if activewear has been sweeping the fashion world for the last 5 years or so fairly aggressively. It started with yoga pants as a trend, then brands began designing pants that only looked like yoga pants, but provided more coverage, and now activewear is a separate design aesthetic completely.
People want to be comfortable and have an exceptional level of quality in their activewear, but they also want to easily integrate each piece into their everyday wardrobe without looking like the person who is sporting gym clothes minus the workout (we’ve all been there…don’t lie).
On the weekends, I seem to struggle when it comes to just wanting to “throw something on” but also appearing like I did put in some sort of effort. My hasty attempt at putting together a “carefree outfit” usually turns into 15 minutes of standing in my closet with nothing to wear and plans to raid the nearest mall after my coffee run (most likely made in my gym clothes). Again, we’ve all been here.
These three pieces being featured in today’s post have emerged as active-meets-fashion-wear, and they’re also the answers to my many attempts at throwing a quick outfit together.
Derek Lam 10C Athleta is a collaboration that comes together to redefine how we view activewear, without sacrificing comfort, functionality, or design.
This sweater is the perfect piece to throw on with your favorite yoga pants or pair of jeans to wear while you hit every errand on your to-do list ano also manage to make a lunch date at your favorite restaurant.
The tank top/sweater duo is very ideal for the working girl in LA who isn’t sure what the weather is going to be for the workday but needs a nice versatile top to throw on because she has plans later that night on the Westside where the temp will be dropping.
And finally, this dress is exactly what I think of when I have plans to hit the tennis courts or ride along in a golf cart for the day. It’s the perfect length to be active while still maintaining a feminine and flirty silhouette.
When fitness meets fashion, a beautiful thing is born; a thing that will be held on to for seasons to come.
