We all aspire to successfully recreate the beautiful, seemingly effortless recipes we pin from Pinterest, and sometimes we do, and other times they don’t turn out as Pinterest-worthy as we had originally hoped. I was reluctant as to how this particular recipe would turn out when my friend and I set out to achieve greatness, but I was pleasantly surprised with their satisfying outcome.
These miniature delicacies, better known as “Petit Fours,” are the perfect tea party table addition. You can frost them any color you desire, and even add details that will leave your guests awestruck. They’re easy, quick, and cute!
Ingredients needed
-Pound cake mix + ingredients called for on the back of the box
-Confectioner’s powdered sugar
-Water
-Food coloring
Materials needed
-Cake pan
-Knife
-Cooling rack
-Bowl(s)
-Spoon(s)
-Plate
Step 1: Prepare and cook the pound cake according to directions supplied on the back of the box.
Step 2: Once cake is cooled, cut it into pieces to be frosted. Whether you cut them into rectangles, or cubes, be sure to cut off all crusted sides so pound cake is completely yellow.
Step 3: Once pieces are cut, prepare your frosting. Use 2 cups of powdered sugar to start out. With a tablespoon, slowly add water. Mix together before adding more water to avoid runny frosting. Once a good consistency is achieved, add food coloring of your choice.
TIP: Don’t do this too early, you don’t want your frosting to harden before your cake is cooled!
Step 4: Place your cooling rack on the sink if it is big enough, or on a cookie sheet if it is smaller. Line up the pound cake pieces so you can drizzle frosting over them. Work slowly to achieve best results. Frosting will harden as time passes, so it is easy to manipulate when coating the sides of the pound cake piece.
Step 5: Once dry, your Petit Fours will have a thin, hard coat of frosting. Let them sit overnight before you pick them up to ensure shell is hard enough to be moved without cracking.
Step 6: Your Petit Fours are now ready to be displayed, admired, and devoured!
