Eyelash Extensions 101

Eyelash extensions. To invest, or not to invest? Are they worth it? Are they natural looking? Do I even want them to look natural, or do I want people to notice I have them? Can I wash my face? Sleep on my stomach? Itch my eyes? WEAR EYELINER?! So many questions…so many answers for you HERE.

If you saw this Instagram from 5 weeks ago, then you probably noticed that I tagged San Diego Lash room one of my photos…or you saw me call out my new lash extensions in the caption. Either way. I didn’t keep it a secret that I had just got some beautiful falsies put on!

I held off writing a review for a couple of weeks because I wanted to really see what these lashes were all about. I’ve had lash extensions in the past, but they were extremely inexpensive, and in my opinion…these lashes from San Diego Lash Room were a bit more on the pricey side, so before I blogged about them I wanted to be sure that I recommended them to you guys!

My first lash experience was more on the annoying side, so I was hesitant when it came to making this appointment. I remember my other lashes being uncomfortable, hard to keep up with, and lasted only about 3 weeks before they started to be even more uncomfortable and unmanageable.

Luckily, this experience was 100% opposite from everything that I had in my head when going into it. It couldn’t have gone better!

San Diego Lash Room (located in the Sola Salon Studios in Bird Rock) is owned by two friends, and I got the pleasure of working with Jessica. She was such a doll! Jessica worked quickly, efficiently, and gently. Which is good because I have the most sensitive eyes on the planet.

I told her that I wanted to go big; I love full lashes and when I do my eye makeup, I’m all about the eyeliner and the multiple coats of mascara! I wasn’t sure what this meant to her, but I figured she was the pro and all I had to do was trust her.

After about a 45 minutes, Jessica was all done. She cleaned me up and told me to look in the mirror. What I saw was SO different from what I was expecting! Instead of dark, thick, long, plastic-esque lashes (which is what I had gotten put on in the past), I saw lashes that looked long, delicate, and natural. They were beautiful! The best part was I couldn’t even really feel them at all.

Like I said, this was 5 weeks ago now. And let me tell you…the last 6 weeks haven’t been “normal.” And by that I mean in the last 6 weeks I’ve gone to a wedding, worked out frequently, cried my eyes out for 3 days straight, attempted to take these lashes off numerous times, dressed up as cotton candy where I put the most eyeliner and eye makeup on ever (yes, including mascara), washed my face with my Clarisonic, scrubbed my eyes with soap and water, and travelled to New York city. Have lashes fallen out? Well of course, that’s only natural. Do I still look like I have all my extensions on? Uhhhh yeah. It’s honeslty CRAZY how durable these lashes are! I have put mascara on, taken it off, put eyeliner on, scrubbed it off…you get the picture…and STILL LASHES!

For the first few weeks I was taking extra care not to touch my eyes or rub them or get water on them or anything; I thought for sure these lashes were going to be off in 3-4 weeks, but they just keep holdin on. My biggest question was if I could put my normal winged eyeliner on or not. I couldn’t find the answer from any other bloggers who always wore extensions, so I just got over it and didn’t wear any. But, I can honestly tell you that it was a mistake! These lashes are honestly so real…they have strength and durability. They can withstand the stroke of an eyeliner brush, and the gentle washing off with a q-tip. So eyeliner? Yes. Go for it. Sleep on your stomach? It’s fine! I sleep on my stomach every night, and though the lashes may get a little funky overnight, I just straighten them up with my finger and they’re good to go. Use a Clarisonic and you’re nervous about hurting them? Just be careful when washing off the soap with water, and pat your face dry a little bit slower and more delicately than normal. Good to go. I promise.

  1. Wow these sound like there were totally worth the money! I haven’t tried eyelash extensions, but this post was really great and I’m considering it now (well, at least when I have some extra cash haha)! I wish you could show a close up of how they look though 🙂
