This will be the first time in my LIFE that I’ll be living somewhere with actual seasons. If you’re new here and you’re not sure what I’m talking about, you can watch this Youtube video Brennan (my husband) and myself made to announce our move to Minnesota! Though it is only temporary, I’m still looking forward to all of the Fall 2020 trends that I’ll actually get to experience this year. You know – like wearing coats, boots, layers, and ALL the things that being a Southern California resident doesn’t allow for due to high temps in the fall.

I originally planned to keep the trends concise, but after I searched Pinterest for some inspiration, I quickly realized there were quite a few fall 2020 trends I wanted to highlight.

MONOCHROME

Going monochrome is one of the easiest ways to create a chic look. It takes little-to-no effort because all you need to do is look for pieces of the same or similar color, and layer them correctly. Even a simple t shirt and jeans will do the trick.

SWEATER VESTS

This is a new one for me that I have yet to try but am just waiting for the right vest to make its way into my life. I’m into the oversized version, as well as the more tailored, fitted look. Gives me major East Coast vibes and I’m all about it.

ATHLEISURE

Quarantine taught us how vital a good pair of sweats really is to our wardrobes, and now that the colder temps are on their way, I know this look isn’t going anywhere. To take your sweats from the couch to the streets, all you need to do is add a statement jacket and a pair of dad sneaks or chunky boots and you’re good to go.

OVERSIZED LAYERS

I didn’t think I’d see a day where I find myself purchasing size XL in mens button downs, but here we are. The more oversized the better. Oversized tops and coats make for such a great statement piece; layer them over dresses, skirts, jeans – whatever. They typically work with just about anything you pair them with.

TALL BOOTS

Whether you’re in a warmer climate, or you’re preparing for the temps to drop in the coming weeks, tall boots work with so many outfits. My favorite way to wear them is with shorts or a mini dress, but I’m also a fan of the boot-over-pants look as well.

STATEMENT DENIM

Denim has been making a huge statement for a while now, and I don’t sense that changing anytime soon. I think we’ll continue to see oversized denim make its way into the foreground, and wide leg/distressed hem/mom jeans aren’t going anywhere. The question is – how do we feel about skinny jeans or jeggings? I haven’t worn either in what feels like years at this point, but Zara recently started selling jeggings – giving me flashbacks to my days at BP in Nordstrom. Not sure how I feel about that one yet.

POPS OF COLOR / PATTERN

Though I love me some neutrals, I’ve been making room for colors in my life as of late. Green is my favorite, but also a big fan of blue and lilac. I think we’ll see these colors roll into our fall wardrobes, as well as new patterns like cow print. Into it.

DRAMATIC SLEEVES

When I was researching Fall/Winter 2020 trends, dramatic sleeves showed up a lot in the runway shows. There weren’t too many pinterest-worthy images available quite yet, which tells me we’re just getting started. Time to get ahead on this one 😉

STATEMENT ACCESSORIES / LEATHER

Bucket hats made a MASSIVE comeback this year. I still haven’t found my perfect bucket (I blame it on my oversized head) but I’m really into this all black look. I’m looking forward to seeing the summer trend favorite make its way into the Fall textiles; fingers crossed I find one that does the trick.

What do you think about these fall 2020 trends? Any that you’re loving? Or better yet – any that you swear you’ll never try? I find that no matter how much I hate a trend in the beginning, I usually end up trying it at least once. Fashion is supposed to be FUN! Don’t be afraid to try new things, even if you hated them to start.

I know quarantine has got this year looking a lot different for all of us, but I encourage you to treat yourself to a few new fall pieces to wear out when you hit the grocery store looking like you’re headed to NYFW. To keep your spirits up this fall, try to make the best out of every mundane task you have to get done. Even things like grocery shopping and walking your dog. Every moment is an opportunity to create your own fashion show! And with Fall 2020 trends like these ones, there’s no time to waste!
