How We Plan Our Trips on the Go

It’s no secret that Brennan and I are the king & queen of last minute on-the-go trips. Without a care in the world, we will set off to our destination despite having accommodations secured – that’s how confident we are these days with our sporadic plans and knowing we will find an epic place to stay no matter what.

We even went on our three-week honeymoon to Australia with only 1 hotel planned, and relied completely on Airbnb the entire rest of the way.

And let me tell you – I still dream about those Airbnb’s we found on the go.

airbnb tips
My biggest pieces of advice when booking last minute vacations on Airbnb:

Get specific with your filters: I always start by filtering by “Airbnb Plus,” “Superhost,” and “Traveling for business.” That way I know the host is verified, the Airbnb will be beautiful, and it will be equipped with WiFi. (If this limits your search too much, forego the Airbnb Plus option).

I also like to add in things like washer/dryer, hot tub, kitchen etc – whatever you decide is your non-negotiable, include it!

Focus on the exact area you want to be in: The map view of the search is so important! When we went to Park City, Utah, we knew which street we wanted to be on and what area we wanted to have accessible on-foot. Knowing this, we only looked at specific parts of the map to narrow down our selection.

Message the hosts: In Australia, we found some amazing Airbnb’s in Byron Bay that were a bit out of our price range; since they were available during our entire stay, we thought it wouldn’t hurt to message the host to see if they were able to offer a discount for booking an extra day. Sometimes you can get amazing deals by connecting with them via chat!

Save homes you like in folders to stay organized: I am constantly looking on Airbnb for amazing getaways; when I find a home I want to stay in, I save it to a folder so I can quickly access it when I know it’s time to book!

Check out Unique Stays and Listicles: There are SO MANY incredible places to stay on Airbnb; these resources are compiled for you so that you can find the most unique options, or plan a trip you never even considered before! Highly recommend checking these out before booking your next trip.
