If you couldn’t tell by the title, I must admit that I definitely learned the importance of SPF the HARD way. As in, I now currently battle sun damage, uneven skintone, and acne scars…all thanks to my desperate high school obsession of being “naturally” olive skin-toned all year around. LOL. Silly girl.
It kills me to even write this but I am 100% guilty of saying to my friends at the beach: “I’m not going to put sunscreen on my face because I want it to be extra tan.” WHAT?! WHY DIDN’T ANYONE SLAP ME…AND THEN PROCEED TO COVER ME WITH SPF 100??!?!?!
And it didn’t stop there! After going to college at the beach and being in the sun constantly, my skin finally caught up to me. Here I am, at 27, trying drastically to reverse all of those years of damage that I brought onto myself. If only I had been introduced to natural ingredient self-tanners like the ones I utilize weekly now! We’d be in a whole different boat.
Anyways.
Luckily, though I know I have a LONG way to go…I now fully understand the importance of SPF, even on those cloudy days when sun exposure doesn’t even cross your mind. (That’s when it can be the worst sometimes!) I will not leave the house without some sort of SPF on my face, AND some sort of foundation or CC cream with additional SPF on over it. Not to mention I wear the biggest hat I own when I’m out at the pool or beach, and typically put a towel over my face if I decide to take a nap in the sun (after reapplying more SPF, mind you).
