Spoke & Weal

I’m the kind of girl who has been going to the same hair stylist since I was 5 years old. She is not only my hair stylist, but a dear family friend, and my part-time therapist 😉 It’s rare that I branch out and look for other salons to go to in my area, because she’s worth the drive back to my home-town and I just love what she does to my hair!

Though I don’t normally leave my {hair} comfort zone, I decided it was time. SO, I scheduled an appointment at one of the coolest salon’s I’ve ever been to. It’s called Spoke & Weal, and it’s right next to Toast on W. 3rd street! If you’ve never been to either and you’re in the area, then you need to make a day out of it and treat yourself to an amazing brunch at Toast, followed up with a hair appointment, topped with a trip to the Beverly Center or the Grove (since it’s conveniently smack dab in the middle of both…shopping addict’s dream!)

Upon entering the salon, I was greeted by the sweetest woman who offered me a t-shirt to put over my top if I wanted to do so, and then took me to the chair where she performed a short stress-relief massage with essential oils. I was blown away!! It was the best way to wind down after sitting in traffic to get to the appointment.

This salon features some of the top stylists in the city. You can view their profiles, and their pricing here. I got to have my custom color done by Dell Miller, who has an incredible life journey, and the best positive attitude I’ve ever encountered. He custom built my blonde based on the things I said I wanted. I am SO BAD at telling stylists what I want, especially if I didn’t have time to find the perfect picture before hand. I ended up telling him I wanted to stay really bright blonde, despite the colder months heading our way. I said I don’t really like golden in my hair, and I wanted to still see a ton of blonde when I pulled it up into a bun or pony tail. With all of my un-scientific requirements, he was off to the color bar behind my chair to custom build the color. I keep saying this because when I asked Dell what makes them different from other salons, that was his answer. “We custom build every color dye we use…nothing is pre-mixed.” Sounds good to me, Dell.

After Dell was done working his magic, it was time for Javan to come in and have a hand at his own kind of magic. He knew that I had just chopped my hair a couple of weeks back, but he wanted to freshen up the layers (without taking off too much length) and make sure all of the ends were fresh and healthy. If you saw my snapchat, then you saw how blown away I was at how precise the blunt cut he did was…I think I said “it’s like a LINE!” Way to be articulate, ash.

Anyways, this salon was first class. Each stylist offers different techniques and expertise, as well as pricing. There is something for everyone at this salon, and if you’re in the area, I urge you to give it a go! Javan even gave me some complimentary haircut cards, so if you see me in person ask me for one! I have a little stack!!
