To say 2020 has been a learning experience would be an absolute understatement, but here I am to say it.
From natural disasters, to lockdowns, to having my eyes opened to how deafening silence around important topics like race & equality really is, to finding my own voice to speak up about hard things to people I love; it’s been a whirlwind in the best way. And I think we an all agree that we must never stop learning. We must always push to know more, to expand our minds, to stop settling, to dig deeper. On all levels.
It’s been a rough year. We have experienced loss on a global scale, and in our own homes. We have had dreams set aside against our will, and we have started new businesses from our too-small apartments. We have cried, we have laughed, we have had one too many zoom happy hours. We have been forced to stay apart, and we have learned how to come together in ways we never have before. We went into this year with “2020 vision,” and I’d say that’s exactly what we all got. We’ve grown more than we ever imagined, and we can truly say that 2020 was the year our eyes were all opened, finally. It’s been hard, but I am confident that we will never take for granted even the smallest, most mundane parts of this beautiful life we get to live everyday.
When quarantine first started, I posted a blog to support small businesses as they faced overnight shut downs for their retail spaces.
In the thick of another round of shut downs and the holiday season in full swing, I wanted to refocus on small businesses with an emphasis on BIPOC owned small businesses.
With podcasts I’ve been listening to, I’ve learned how important it is to support BIPOC-owned small businesses due to the difficulties they often face with merely getting loans to support the start of their businesses, let alone thriving in a society that tends to gravitate to and highlight predominantly white-owned businesses.
If you have any brands you’d like to add, please feel free to DM me, send an email, or comment below. I want this to be an ongoing resource for anyone to referece at all times.
LOVE YOU ALL and so happy that throughout this year we have been able to come together to have difficult conversations on and offline so that we can implement change in our everyday lives and continue to fight for equality, unity, justice, and love.
