I am a lipstick fiend; I will literally buy a new lipstick just because it’s sunny out. I’ve purchased many different types: matte, semi-matte, glossy, thick, light, etc. The issue here is that despite my colorful collection, my lips just cannot handle continuous lipstick wear; especially because my favorite lipsticks are all matte. As much as I love matte lipstick, it dries my lips out so terribly that I feel they are in a perpetual state of recovery the week following the wear.
I recently mentioned my misfortune to a woman at the MAC counter in Nordstrom, and she shared her routine for a flawless/painless matte lip:
First, you need to find a lip therapy that works best for you. I’ve been a devoted Blistex fan until this MAC angel of mine told me to try Aquaphor. I’ve also found Vaseline is a godsend for overnight repair for skin + lips (I know I’m probably the last one to discover this…but better late than never, right?).
Second, if you are a frequent lipstick user, I highly recommend this lip primer from MAC. I apply it with all of my matte lipsticks for a smooth look, and extended wear. It’s basically a glue for lipstick: aka it’s basically a necessity if you want a lip to last as long as possible.
A liner goes a long way as well…so if you can splurge on this lipstick accessory, invest in some good liners to go with your most coveted lipsticks!
