Do you guys remember how C O L O R F U L my wardrobe was when I first started blogging? We’re talking full-on Kate Spade hot pink pants, navy blue blazers, stripe shirts, green jeans, every shade of pink lipstick you could imagine, and I can’t fail to mention my polka dot nylons. My wardrobe SCREAMED color. That’s what I think of when I look at this Who What Wear dress. It’s a vibrant print of deep, bold colors, complete with ruffles.
When I moved to LA, my wardrobe was severely influenced by what I was seeing in the streets of Downtown LA and in my office at work. Which, you guessed it, were a lot of neutrals.
It was a really weird transition because it happened almost overnight. I ditched my color-adorned clothing and almost entirely replaced them with black and white pieces.
For a while I was very anti-color. I always felt confident, chic, timeless, and put together in black, so that’s what I found myself grabbing for each morning when I got dressed. It got to a point where people were commenting “another black outfit!” on photos and Brennan was saying “shocker, you wore black!” This is what first made me realize how monochromatic my style might appear to people who don’t get to glimpse into my closet every morning! Which, believe it or not, still had a LOT of color.
It took a while, but I am finally back to incorporating pops of color into my outfits. No, you won’t see me sporting my hot-pink, high waisted trousers anytime soon…but this Who What Wear dress is a start. I’ve been very drawn to red lately, which is a new color for me, but you’ve probably noticed the pops of red throughout my IG.
I’ve found that if I incorporate my favorite accessories like this black sailor cap, black purse, and these black lace up block heels into my colorful outfits, I’m more inclined to sport the colorful threads – it’s my may of “edging it up,” I guess you could say. There is still a lot of black present, but obviously the color is stealing the show.
Similarly to the black accessories, wearing really vintage denim shorts or high-waisted jeans give the same effect. Especially when paired with classic Vans or white lace-up tennis shoes.
What do you guys think? Are you pro-all black wardrobe, or do you need color to get through the day?
